understanding file formats
A file format is a standard way that information is encoded for storage in a computer file.
format file examples can be:
JPEG-Short for Joint Photographic Experts Group.JPEG is a lossy compression technique for colour images. Although it can reduce files sizes to about 5% of their normal size, some detail is lost in the compression.
PSD - A .PSD file is a layered image file used in Adobe PhotoShop. PSD, which stands for Photoshop Document, is the default format that Photoshop uses for saving data. PSD is a proprietary file that allows the user to work with the images' individual layers even after the file has been saved. You can not edit layers of a photoshopped image unless you open it in a PSD file.
GIF - GIF, or Graphic Interchange Format, is a file extension for an often animated raster graphics file and is the second most common image format used on the World Wide Web after JPEG.
PNG - PNG files are images that have no background. This makes it easier to get the image itself other than having to cut it out.
TIF -TIF is an image format file for high-quality graphics. TIF files are also called .TIFF, which stands for “Tagged Image Format File.” TIF files were created in the 1986 as a file format for scanned images in an attempt to get all companies to use one standard file format instead of multiple.
File formats for web are,AI(adobe illustrator), GIF, PNG, and SVG( scalable vector graphic)
The best resolution for print is 300 DIPI as it is good quality but not too big of a file size however, the best resolution for web would be 72 DPI because it most closely matches the dots on a monitor.
The colour space for printing is CMYK these colours are,Cyan, Magenta ,Yellow and Black. For the web however colours are set out RGB, Red, Green and Blue.

Raster is for print, Raster is made up of pixels and good for tones however it breaks up easily when zoomed in on. Web uses Vectors which are made up of shapes and are bad for tones but good for flat colours. Also zooming in doesn't affect the image as the computer redraws the images.
